More Stories of Impact: Celebrating 10 Years of the Oaks Retreat

This fall, we're celebrating TEN years of our first campus retreat - the Oaks Retreat in Auburn, Alabama.

We can't believe how God has used this retreat to build His kingdom at Auburn over the last decade. We've seen a generation of leaders come through the Oaks and are so encouraged by the stories they have about how being a part of the Oaks Retreat has impacted them beyond their college years.

marjorie roberson - Oaks Director in 2013

"I’m so grateful for the Oaks. To me, the Oaks was not just an opportunity to pour into incoming freshmen, but it was also an organization full of Christians from many different churches who deeply encouraged and challenged me in my own faith.

Being a part of the Oaks ignited my love for the local church and grew my passion for encouraging college students to make being an active and vibrant member of a local congregation a priority during their years in school.

Marti Harris - Oaks Director in 2014

"To me, the Oaks was a means by which God showed his faithfulness time and time again.

I can't even begin to express the ways that God stirred my affections for him during my involvement with the Oaks. To think of all of all the ways that God has used this retreat to call people to die to themselves and follow Jesus is so incredible and I'm thankful and humbled that I got to play just a small part of that.

To me, the Oaks was a means by which God showed his faithfulness time and time again.

I got to be a part of the first few years of the retreat and I always remember thinking that in 10 years, no one is going to remember me or anything that I contributed, but hopefully they will be able to praise God for all of the things that he has done to bring glory to himself!

Garris Bugg - Oaks Director in 2016

"The Oaks Retreat means a lot to me and I have so many incredible memories from it. I attended as a freshman and was a counselor for a couple of years before I was a director. To me, the Oaks Retreat was a time to make impactful relationships with other believers throughout the different churches in Auburn and Opelika.

To me, the Oaks Retreat was a time to make impactful relationships with other believers.

Whether those relationships are freshmen meeting each other for the first time, counselors discipling freshmen, or leadership growing closer to one another, it has been incredible to see how different people stir up one another in Christ. These are relationships that I am still very thankful for today."

The Oaks will always be a special place where we began our ministry to college students.

We are unbelievably thankful for the growth and impact we've seen over the last ten years of the Oaks. Would you join us in praying that that impact would spread onto every campus we serve across the southeast?
